Late yesterday evening, I re-evaluated my situation and decided to take two more rest days to prepare for a longer trek. I have enough food for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. Tomorrow, I’ll head into town to resupply and make better choices about what I need. While I’m in town, I plan to mail off some items to lighten my pack now that I know what’s essential and what’s not for the Colorado Trail (CT). Lightening my load will make the elevation gains more manageable, although I’m still concerned about the weight.
Today turned out to be great. I spent time with new friends, discussing our hike’s future, our adventures, what brought us here, and the weight of our packs. The weather took a turn, so it’s time to eat, hang out some more, and call it an early night. I’ll rise early in the morning to hitch to Conifer, where I’ll resupply and mail off items to Tucson to further lighten my pack. I hope to head out early Tuesday morning to continue my trek, aiming to complete Segment 2.
